Write your dispute letter
Pick a letter type and a bureau, fill in the details, then generate a plain-text letter you can print or copy. Nothing is sent anywhere — your details stay in this browser.
2. Your letter
No letter yet. Fill in the form on the left and choose Generate letter — it appears here as plain text you can print or copy.
Official channels: you can also use the bureau's own free online dispute form and the free CFPB sample dispute templates — this letter does not replace them.
Next steps — not part of your letter
Before you send — keep this page
This page is not part of your letter. Page 1 is your letter — do not mail this page.
- Print page 1 only, and sign it. Page 1 is your letter.
- Mail page 1 only — never this page — in a way that proves the date. Certified mail with return receipt requested (or certificate of mailing) — or submit through the bureau's own online dispute form and keep the confirmation number and a screenshot.
- Keep a copy of the letter and every enclosure.
- Enter the exact send date in the tracker. The investigation clock starts when the bureau receives your dispute: 30 days, extendable by up to 15 days (15 U.S.C. § 1681i(a)(1)). Your receipt or confirmation is what proves when that clock started — without it, the countdown is only an estimate.
